Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Jake Adelstein knows everything comes with strings attached and must decide whether to help Ishida. Sato must make a similar decision if he is to stop Matsuo blackmailing Samantha, but he is also struggling with his loyalties to Chihara-Kai

Plot Summary[edit | edit source]

The episode begins with a flashback to 1994, as Samantha arrives in Kitakyushu as a missionary. She begins to further her organisation 'Choose the Right' and their mission to spread the Lord's grace under the guise of providing free English lessons to anyone interested.

Back in the present, Samantha talks with Polina about her situation. She is trying desperately to avoid Matsu and his me, who are after her because she stole $40,000,000 from the local mission fund. She fears extradition and wants to avoid this, putting the problem behind her at all costs.

Meanwhile, Jake talks with his mother. The conversation is an emotional one, with his mother requesting that he returns home to make good with his father and look after his sister. Jake declines, citing that he doesn't want to and wants to stay and continue his investigations. Afterwards, he talks with Miyamoto, and the two converse about Hiroto Katagiri. Jake eventually figures that Hiroto isn't as trustworthy as he initially thought, and that his methods are often too strange to rules. Nonetheless, Jake receives information from Hiroto on the traitor, but is henceforth warned by Hiroto about taking a return favour from Ishida.

Just as Hiroto predicted, Ishida offers Jake a favour in return for the news. Jake asks Ishida for information about the loan shark company, but Ishida simply refers Jake to look to the places that declined people before they turned to the loan shark company; here, he may find his answers. Jake discovers that the company, Suzono Financial is owned by Sugita, the same person seen with Towza earlier in the show. Jake decides it is in his best interest to meet with Sugito, and tells him that he will write his story regardless of whether Sugito helps him with the information he needs.

Sugito agrees in principle and at face-value, but after Jake leaves, Sugito runs to Towza for further orders. Meanwhile, it eventually becomes clear that the traitor is none other than Kume. Ishida demands answers from Kume, who remarks that he is on a path of righteousness and believes that the Chihara-Kai is lacking innovation in the business and feels Towza's insistence to compromise the morals puts the Chihara-Kai at a disadvantage. Ishida asks Sato to kill Kume, but Kume commits suicide before he is able to by jumping from a terrace.

Katagiri insists that Ishida maintians peace between the factions despite the current events that have transpired, and advises him of the dangers of going after Towza and his men, they're unlikely to win. Ishida eventually comes around, and Katagiri is able to convince him to retain the peace between the factions. Jake and Tin Tin decide that it is best if they visit Sugita's home, but find that he too has comitted suicide before they were able to speak to him. The news of the truce is passed on to Towza's men, but Katagiri feels that Ishida is in a vulnerable position and is succeptible to being overthrown.

Katagiri tells Jake that sometimes, not knowing is the most peaceful option that one can take, and that he musn't worry too much about things that he cannot control. Jake takes Katagiri's advice to have a fun night and visits Samantha at the club. Tensions begin to rise immedately after Jake arrives at the club when he notices Sato is also at the bar. Jake is upset when Sato and Samantha leave the club together, and he is left to be consoled by Polina, who is also experiencing troubles of her own surrounding her employment at the club.

As the epsiode draws to a close, Samantha is seen visiting Matsu. Samantha realises that her only choice is to sleep with Matsu when he refuses the financial incentive she offers him. Whilst this occurs, Sato returns to the Chihara-Kai's headquarters where he finds Ishida and Towza's men fighting.
